KZ- What would you say has changed from your debut with “ON” to “X-82”?
HWANG SEONG BIN: One notable change is that now we think about our fans when we produce music. After we debuted and met our fans, 82DE, and received their support, something definitely changed. We started thinking more about what fans would like, and how we could show them our cool sides.
KZ- After the mini-album “Beat by 82” you release “X-82”. Why is the number 82 so important?
CHO SEONG IL: 82 is an important number to us because it is part of our group name. ‘82’ is the country code of South Korea, which signifies our ambition to become major players in Korea and spread our influence to the whole world. Now the number ‘82’ is part of our identity.
The title of our first mini album [BEAT by 82] conveyed that the music was made by us, 82MAJOR. And the second mini album [X-82] is actually a play on how ‘X-82’ and ‘X-file’ sound similar in Korean, to express that we will be showing sides of ourselves that have never been revealed to the public before. We’re using the number ‘82’ in various ways to show off the charms of 82MAJOR.
KZ- AprĆØs le mini-album « Beat by 82 », vous avez sorti « X-82 ». Pourquoi le chiffre 82 est-il si important ?
KZ- What are your talents besides singing and dancing?
KIM DO GYUN: We like to play sports, and I think all members are overall pretty athletic. We learned how to play a lot of different sports like badminton, basketball, bowling, and martial arts, and we’re quite confident about our skills in each sport that we learned.
KZ- Quels sont vos talents en dehors du chant et de la danse ?
KZ- Let's go back to “X-82”. What do you want to transmit with this album, what is the concept?
HWANG SEONG BIN: [X-82] conveys the message that we will show sides of 82MAJOR that have not been revealed to the public before. We showcase our music and charms that we have not yet shown before!
NAM SEONG MO: The concept of this album is secret agents! The six members of 82MAJOR become secret agents to carry out an important mission – conquering the hearts of listeners all over the world with our music. Are you ready to get ‘stuck’ on our music~?
KZ- Revenons Ć « X-82 ». Que voulez-vous transmettre avec cet album, quel en est le concept ?
KZ- What would you say is the song that best represents you and why?
CHO SEONG IL: I think it’s ‘82’, because the lyrics express our confidence as a rookie group that had just debuted. The lyrics also depict our love for Korea and the desire to represent the country, befitting our group name ‘82MAJOR’, so I think ‘82’ represents the group best.
KIM DO GYUN: I think the song that represents 82MAJOR is none other than the title track of our new album, ‘Stuck’. The majority of the song is rap, which definitely helps to highlight our hip-hop identity and our overflowing confidence.
KZ- And of all your songs, which one is your favorite?
NAM SEONG MO: My personal favorite is ‘Face Time’. I like the sounds that were added to the song, and it turns out that a lot of listeners also like those sounds, which makes me like the song even more.
PARK SEOK JOON: I have a soft spot in my heart for ‘Illegal’. The song was released while we were in our training period, but after we debuted YOON YE CHAN and I continued to work on the song together, making it longer and adding choreography. I think the end result was quite high in quality. We spent a long time with ‘Illegal’ since before our debut, and many fans like the song, so my love for ‘Illegal’ keeps on growing.
KZ- What was the most difficult part of “ķė(Stuck)”, singing, rap, dancing or shooting the music video?
YOON YE CHAN: Honestly, dancing was the hardest part of ‘Stuck’. The choreographies for our previous title tracks were pretty difficult too, but the dance for ‘Stuck’ is the hardest of them all. So we put a lot of time and effort into practicing the dance for this album!
YOON YE CHAN: I’d like to answer this in two parts. First, in terms of choreography, the most fun part of ‘Gossip’ is HWANG SEONG BIN’s solo rap part, where he stands apart and raps while other members dance. The dance moves express the lyrics directly, so that’s a lot of fun. And in terms of song, I like my part “eugh.. the gossip?” I tried a new method, and it was interesting to do this style of rapping! I hope listeners will focus on these two parts when we perform ‘Gossip’.
KZ- Quelle est la partie la plus amusante d'un « Gossip » ?
KZ- What are your plans for next year, maybe a European tour?
CHO SEONG IL: We don’t have specific plans yet, but we do want to try and meet fans more frequently than this year! We made a lot of great memories with 82DE during our promotional period, and I hope we get to make even more next year. I’m sad that 2024 is passing by, but I’m already excited for 82MAJOR to meet fans in 2025 with new sides and charms. We’ll see you next year!
KZ- Tell the fans something so that they listen to you and follow you, how do you differ from other bands?
NAM SEONG MO: I’d say it’s our free spirit! All members are on the honest side, and rather than formalities we like to try out new and fresh things that others haven’t done before. We try to incorporate that free spirit into our music. I think that aspect was conveyed especially well in ‘Face Time’ and ‘Gossip’, two tracks on our new album [X-82]. While working on those two songs, we experimented and tried out everything that we wanted to, just like the songs’ concepts. I think the two songs showcase our natural, free sides pretty well.
PARK SEOK JOON: I think it’s our friendship. Five of us are the same age, and the youngest is not that much younger so we all hang out as good friends. And we’re also very goofy, so even during practice, once someone’s eyes meet another’s, we start joking around. I think that kind of friendly chemistry is also evident on stage. We’ll make the same gesture at the same time or make jokes with each other very naturally.
