ALAMAT was born to give visibility to Filipino pop, using cultural diversity and different languages: Tagalog, Ilokano, Kapampangan, Bicolano, Waray-Waray, Hiligaynon and Bisaya.
They came out of the scouting program Pwede! to bring awareness of Filipino pop in the so-called Pinoy wave.
Its members are: Taneo (Visual, Singer and Dancer), Mo (Rapper and Vocalist), Tomas (Vocalist and Dancer), R-Ji (Vocalist and Visual), Valfer (Rapper and Vocalist), Alas (Rapper), Gami (Vocalist) and bunso Jao (Dancer, Vocalist and Visual).
ALAMAT debuted on February 14, 2021, with their single Kbye under VIVA Artist Agency.
On May 29, 2021 they presented the single SANDINGAN, on July 15'21 came KASMALA and on October 21'21 they returned with porque.
Let's know something more about them.
A- Our group name "Alamat" means legend in english, they are also stories that are told to the young ones to pass on our cultural heritage, we seek to do the same with everything we do as a group. A legend can also pertain to certain people, and we strive to be one of them in our own fields someday.
KZ- What are your talents besides singing and dancing?
A- Some of the things we can do as a group besides singing and dancing are writing songs, making music, playing instruments and sometimes choreographing routines, we also love playing sports.
KZ- Quels sont tes talents Ć part le chant et la danse ?
KZ- Let's talk about your debut single "Kbye". Why did you choose different dialects?
A- A big part of Alamat’s branding is our multicultural and multilingual concept. Each of us came from different parts of the Philippines speaking different languages. In our debut song “kbye” we utilized these languages as a way to proudly show the beauty and the uniqueness of these languages that came from our respective provinces.
KZ- There is a stream of Filipino groups called "Pinoy". Would you include yourselves in this definition and how would you define your musical style?
A- Yes, we are proudly pinoy. We embrace the things that make us who we are, our culture, our heritage, our ways, and our language through our music and in everything we do. What we can say about our music’s style is that it’s quite vast, and ever changing. We love exploring the world of music.
KZ- You already have four singles on the market: "Kbye", "Sandingan", "Kasmala" and "porque". Which one was the easiest and the hardest to perform?
A- "Sandigan" would be the easiest, "kbye" on second, "porque" third, and "kasmala" as the hardest as it requires more energy and control than the rest. All of them have a different levels of difficulties especially when it comes to live performance, but as we practice more and more it gets easier. Just like when we were just starting our first single kbye it was a bit hard before to be honest. We wanted the quality of our performance to be similar to how we recorded it and it was a matter of practicing until we mastered the song . This also goes for all of our other songs. Same process of repetitive rehearsals because you can't get that in just one hour of practice.
KZ- Let's talk about "porque". It's a title in Spanish that seems to escape your roots, how did it come about, what do you want to transmit?
A- ."porque" (with a small p) is actually a remake of the hit early 2010s song by Zamboanga-based band, Maldita. The lyrics are a mix of Tagalog and Chavacano, a local language in Zamboanga that sounds like a mix of Pinoy and Spanish. Remaking porque is our way of appreciating OPM songs that found success nationally in spite of using a regional language. Like Alamat's past songs, the arrangement of 'porque' fuses Western and traditional Filipino music. It mixes bandurria and native percussions with a lo-fi hiphop beat.
KZ- When it comes to writing a song, what is the most difficult thing (different languages, the lyrics themselves, the melody)?
A- For us, the hardest part in writing music would be formulating the lyrics, since we’re a group we have to make something that is catchy, and has meaning, and connect what we all make individually to finish the puzzle in the best way possible, translating the original lyrics to our own respective languages is also challenging because we also need to consider the rhyming of words, the melody of our own parts if it will fit in with the recent or next part.
KZ- What are your projects: tours, presentations, new works...?
A- As of the moment we are preparing for performances here and there, and an upcomining online concert; The arrival. We will be performing there along with other new opm artists from viva. We are also working on our upcoming new crafts, and we train everyday to deliver the best of what we have and sadly, We can’t do tours as of the moment because of the pandemic.
KZ- If you could collaborate with other artists, who would you like it to be?
A- Having a collaborations with different artists in and out of the country would be an honor for us, but we would love to have a collaboration with OPM artists, in order for us to showcase the greatness of pinoy talent, Philippine culture and the beauty of OPM worldwide because we aim to bring Ppop in international stage someday.
KZ- Si vous pouviez collaborer avec d'autres artistes, qui aimeriez-vous que ce soit ?
A- We are hoping and dreaming that Ppop will rise higher internationally someday, and if that will happen we hope that Filipinos will be even more proud about who they’re and where they came from.
A- To our international Fans out there, Thank you so much for all of the love and support that you invested, we will not dissapoint you. We can’t wait to see you all soon and have some good memories, take care always guyz and we love youl all!
